Great YouTube Videos for Lower Grades

When you are looking for developmentally appropriate videos to include in your lower grade and/or autistic/special education school counseling lessons, check out Yo Re Mi on YouTube. This channel is just shy of 4K subscribers, but they have been around for a long time. I’m sure they will continue to grow as more educators learn about their great videos.

Here is how they describe Yo Re Mi:

“What is Yo Re Mi? Music, movement, mindfulness and imagination. Our teachers go into schools and daycares to share curriculum-based music and yoga enrichment, designing and implementing early education programming for thousands of children in pre-school through grade 5.”

This channel has absolutely been a go to for me, and the students really enjoy the videos. A colleague suggested this channel to me, and it quickly became a favorite! Today, I want to share just few of the videos my students really enjoyed. If you teach self-contained special education classes, these are great! I used them with kindergarten, first grade, and a K-2 autistic class.

Their “Warm Up” video is one of the first I used. This was a great opener for my non-verbal autistic students. We repeated this one often.

“Hop A Lot Stop” is another one of the first and also a repeat. The students LOVE hopping around. I did my best to keep up with them!

“Sittin’ on the Floor” is the first one I used with Kindergarten and first grade. I used it with the autistic students later in the school year.

This last video is one I really wanted to use this past school year, but I would always forget to order the breathing ball. This is one of those videos that I believe could work with any elementary grade level. The visual of the breathing ball is pretty awesome!

Have you heard of or ever used Yo Re Mi with your students? If you haven’t, be sure to skim through the videos and see if any of them could work for your school counseling lessons. There are LOTS of yoga videos along with gems like the ones I’ve shared today.

There is still time to sign up for the Summer Counselor Conference. I am presenting tips for being on the specials rotation. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already registered.
